Kindle Bargains

Where do Kindles go after they break… the Re-sale market. I came across the Kindle re-sale market while checking prices for used Kindles. I have been debating whether to sell my Kindle DX to help fund my iPad purchase.

Bids for Kindles on BigDeal, an auction site, start at .01 - and typically sell for $150, which is $100 less than on Amazon.

I also found,
Luciddeals.com
Where Kindles claim to be selling for $64.95.

I contacted Amazon and inquired about the legitimacy of these sites. Amazon’s response,
“Hello Louie,
It appears that these devices are re-sales of our devices. In the event that these devices are not reported as previously lost or stolen, they will be covered by our 1-year manufacturer warranty from the date of original purchase. We can obtain the information about the original order if you were to get the device and have the serial number.

I haven’t ruled out selling my DX - but I am strongly considering purchasing a spare 6in Kindle. As always, caveat emptor.

The Kindle weighs significantly less.  It also holds 1500 titles at once, with 350,000+ titles available in the Amazon Kindle store (where they cost less than paper books).   Thanks to built-in wireless, the Kindle updates 7000 blogs throughout the day and also lets you get electronic versions of The New York Times and other newspapers and magazines.  (Amazon pays for the wireless; no extra fee to you.) The battery lets you read for days without charging. And when you’re tired of reading, the new Text-to-Speech feature will read the book to you aloud.  You can read on train to the park-and-ride, then hop in your car and let the Kindle read to you the rest of the way home.

Can’t say I haven’t thought about that too. I was drooling from the iPad commercial…
